Ye olde Vogue magazine

Happy Sunday! - the day of rest, relaxation and resetting for the week ahead.

I'm not feeling any of that though, because I've got a long to do list of chores to get done (the woes of not living at home). But I'm feeling positive because at the end of this week my spending ban will come to an end!! That's four whole weeks of not shopping or eating out at restaurants. A tad dramatic but I think this will go down as one of the things I'm most proud of having done. Only because by not being allowed to spend, it's made me realise how much I usually do. Little things like making the odd ASOS purchase in the middle of the night or just wasting money on eating out when I have plenty of food in my fridge.

I'm sincerely hoping I'll learn a lesson and change my ways in the long run but OBVIOUSLY I've got some things I want to buy ASAP. I bet it'll feel like breathing again when you've had your head under water for ages ^_^

Anyway, onto some random bits:

I've been doing plain painted nails for a while (not even a glitter nail!) simply because it looks clean and I've been lazy. But I did mix it up with my current manicure with a coral/peach ombré. Spring has sprung etc. This is such an easy way to do interesting nails and it makes you rediscover polishes you forgot you ever had.

Last night was another wild one in the library, made all the more wilder when I found out that metres away from me, there was a physical archive of Vogue, British Vogue and Vogue Paris dating back to the 40s!! Not only is this a game changer for my dissertation but it's also very, VERY COOL.

It's so interesting to compare to present-Vogue. Half of the images back then were illustrations and there was definitely a lot more older models used, but they look equally as fabulous as the younger ones today! Also pretty fascinating to be able to see that fashion is indeed cyclical. I mean, that mink fur coat is to die for :o Incidentally, you'd never see a feature on real furs now which just goes to show how times change, or something.

I've been analysing and writing all day so you'll have to excuse me for not finishing that sentence properly. zzzzZZZZZ!

If you're interested in seeing any more (better photos) of these old pages, let me know :)

  4. How are those books not crumbling with every page turned?! They are ANCIENT. I'd be so scared to touched them out of fear of accidentally ripping a page or something lol!
Love your nails - very spring(y)!

  5. Wow, I absolutely love how your nails turned out! I've always wanted to try out the ombre manicure but just don't have enough colours to make it work, haha.

  6. Love those nails! I did a text and quantatitive analysis of 20 years of Vogue as primary research for my dissertation so it's safe to say I understand the allure and interest of them... but several papercuts and glazed eyes later, Vogue briefly lost its' position of high value for me :P xx
